Saudi investments in Tunisia

Tunisia will be benefit from the lion’s share of the future Saudi investments said, on Wednesday, Abderrahmen Bin Abdallah Ezzamel, President of the Council of Saudi Chambers.

During a talk with President Béji Caid Essebsi, the Saudi official specified that Saudi investments is around 300 million dollars and will concern the sectors of health, basic infrastructure, education and industry. Ezzamel voiced will of the Saudi businessmen and investors to deepen relations with their Tunisian counterparts to create efficient projects in Tunisia whose geographical position allows it to be an attachment point with the European Union (EU).

He suggested to host a Tunisian delegation specialised in the petrochemical sector to examine the possibility to create specialised companies in manufacturing non-transformed products and their exportation towards the European countries.

The official called for training a Tunisian team which will be tasked with identifying a series of sectors and projects that could be funded by Saudi businessmen and investors in Tunisia.

In turn, President of the Tunisian-Saudi Business Council Salmane Bin Ibrahim El Irii announced the creation of an investment fund endowed with an important capital, fruit of a co-operation between the two countries’ businessmen.

This fund will help create a joint company of land transport, he further said.

He added that during the latest years, Saudi businessmen presented to the Tunisian governments a number of important projects which did not receive favourable answers.

The official called to examine again these projects, with strong employability, related notably to the creation of a tourist academy and a hospital meeting the international standards.

The Saudi businessmen attending the meeting, evoked a number of obstacles that the Tunisian government is called to settle. They concern particularly, the increase of customs duties and banking interest as well as problems of registering the landed property.
